Mangaluru, Apr 14: Deputy commissioner (DC) of Dakshina Kannada, Darshan H V, has stated that the process of collecting census data under India’s first digital census is currently underway in the district in two phases, as per the Census Act, 1948, on behalf of the office of the registrar general and census commissioner of India.
He said that the public has been given an opportunity to participate in the self house-listing process. As per the Act, all personal information, including names and identities, will be kept confidential and will not be used for any taxation or investigation purposes. The data will be securely maintained, he assured.

From April 1 to 15, citizens can complete their self house-listing by following the simple steps provided by the directorate. The process takes about 15–20 minutes, after which a unique self-enumeration identification number will be generated. This ID can be shared with enumerators during their verification visit to complete the process, he said.
As many as 57,466 houses have already been covered under the self house-listing process in Dakshina Kannada so far, and the process is continuing across the district.
He explained that the self house-listing process is simple. Citizens can visit the website se.census.gov.in, log in using the OTP received on their mobile number, select their state, district, and local details, mark their house location on the digital map, and fill in details related to their household and family. After submission, an SE ID will be generated, which must be provided to the enumerator during their visit. The enumerator will verify the details using this SE ID.
The deputy commissioner, in a release, urged all residents of the district to complete their house listing online through the link https://se.census.gov.in/.
