Fadnavis mourns Asha Bhosle’s demise, calls it huge loss to music world

Mumbai, Apr 12: Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle passed away in Mumbai on Sunday at the age of 92, following a chest infection and respiratory complications.

She was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on Saturday night, where she breathed her last, her son Anand Bhosle confirmed. Her last rites will be held on Monday at Shivaji Park.

The news of her demise triggered an outpouring of grief from across the country, with political leaders and film personalities paying tribute to the iconic singer.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed deep sorrow, calling it a moment of grief for music lovers worldwide. He described Asha Bhosle as one of the most versatile artists in Indian music history and recalled her immense contribution alongside the Mangeshkar family.

He noted that with her passing, India has lost another musical legend after Lata Mangeshkar, adding that her legacy of singing over 12,000 songs in more than 20 languages remains unparalleled.

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar expressed his grief on social media, stating that her melodious voice would remain immortal. Filmmaker Karan Johar termed her loss irreplaceable, saying her voice defined generations of cinema and would live on forever.

Asha Bhosle, known for her versatility and timeless songs, had continued to inspire audiences even in her later years, performing live concerts, including on her 90th birthday.

Her passing marks the end of an era in Indian music, leaving behind an unparalleled legacy cherished by millions.
