New Chandigarh, Apr 11: Punjab Kings produced a stunning batting display to chase down a daunting 220-run target in just 18.5 overs, defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 17 of the Indian Premier League 2026 at the PCA New International Cricket Stadium.
Captain Shreyas Iyer anchored the chase with a composed unbeaten 69, while young openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh set the tone with explosive half-centuries at the top.
Punjab Kings got off to a blistering start, with Arya leading the assault during the powerplay. He smashed a rapid 57 off just 20 balls, including five fours and five sixes, bringing up his fifty in just 16 deliveries—one of the fastest in the franchise’s history. Prabhsimran matched the aggression, scoring 51 off 24 balls as PBKS raced to 93 without loss in the first six overs.

The breakthrough for SRH came through Shivang Kumar, who removed both openers in quick succession and later added another wicket to finish with impressive figures of 3/33. However, by then, the damage had already been done.
Iyer then took control of the innings, building a steady partnership with Nehal Wadhera before accelerating at the right moment. He reached his half-century in 24 balls and ensured there were no further hiccups in the chase. Shashank Singh provided finishing support with an unbeaten 16 as Punjab sealed the win with seven balls to spare and six wickets in hand.
Earlier, SRH had posted a formidable 219/6 after a flying start from openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head, who put on a 120-run partnership. Abhishek was the standout performer with a blazing 78 off 28 balls, while Head contributed 38.
Despite a solid foundation, SRH lost momentum in the latter half of the innings. Heinrich Klaasen scored 39 but struggled to accelerate, and the team managed only 43 runs in the final five overs. For Punjab, Shashank Singh and Arshdeep Singh picked up two wickets each to restrict the total.
With this victory, Punjab Kings remain unbeaten in the tournament, strengthening their position on the points table with an impressive run so far.
