New Delhi, Apr 6: Rugby India on Monday announced that the second edition of the Rugby Premier League (RPL) will be held at the Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad from June 16 to 28.

Following a successful inaugural season in Mumbai, the upcoming edition will feature the same six franchises, continuing to provide a competitive platform for both Indian and international players while delivering a high-energy rugby experience for fans.

Welcoming the event, Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary for Youth Advancement, Tourism, Culture, and Sports in Telangana, highlighted Hyderabad’s growing reputation as a global sporting hub. He noted that hosting international leagues like the RPL boosts tourism, enhances the city’s global profile, and contributes to the state’s sports economy.

Rahul Bose, President of Rugby India, emphasised the league’s commitment to continuous improvement. He said the focus remains on elevating the fan experience, strengthening partnerships, and delivering top-quality rugby both on the field and across broadcast platforms.

The decision to host the tournament in Hyderabad also aligns with the vision of GMR Sports, which recently signed a strategic agreement with the Telangana government to develop a Satellite Sports City as part of Bharat Future City.

GMR Sports CEO Satyam Trivedi highlighted Hyderabad’s strong infrastructure, connectivity, and enthusiastic fan base as key factors behind the choice of venue, adding that the move will help expand rugby’s footprint in India and inspire young athletes.

A. Sonibala Devi, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of the Sports Authority of Telangana, said hosting the RPL would strengthen the state’s high-performance ecosystem and provide valuable exposure to emerging talent.

With a proven format, elite competition, and a new host city, the second edition of the Rugby Premier League is set to further boost the growth and popularity of rugby across India.
