RGV says Aditya Dhar faces industry backlash after ‘Dhurandhar’ success

Mumbai, Mar 15: Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has said that the massive success of Dhurandhar has led to resentment against its director Aditya Dhar within the film industry.

Speaking in an interview with Rediff, Varma said Dhar’s film had a significant impact on filmmaking and storytelling, forcing many in the industry to step out of their comfort zones.

According to Varma, the success of “Dhurandhar” has raised expectations for large-scale action films, which he believes has created pressure and financial challenges for other filmmakers.

He said many big-budget action films in the Telugu film industry are reportedly undergoing extensive reshoots following the film’s success, leading to increased production costs.

“So, of course, they hate him. He has forced them to get out of their comfort zones, and that costs a lot of money,” Varma said.

Varma also remarked that the industry is closely watching Dhar and his wife, actor Yami Gautam, suggesting that some are waiting for them to make mistakes.

“Aditya Dhar and Yami Gautam will have to move forward with extra caution. The film industry is waiting for them to fumble and fall,” he added.

The upcoming sequel to “Dhurandhar” is set to continue the story from the first film. Following the death of the character Rehman Dakait, the new antagonist will be played by Arjun Rampal as Major Iqbal.

The film explores the transformation of the character Jaskirat Singh Rangi into Hamza Ali Mazari as he works from within the system to gather intelligence and thwart planned attacks.

The film is scheduled for release on March 19 and is expected to have a runtime of nearly three hours and 55 minutes.
