Mumbai, Mar 7: Rapper Badshah has addressed the controversy surrounding his latest track Tateeree, saying he never intended to insult women or children and expressing regret if the song hurt anyone’s sentiments.
In a video shared on his Instagram account, the rapper said he had noticed that some lyrics and visuals in the song had upset many people, particularly those from Haryana. He emphasised that he is a proud Haryanvi and strongly connected to the state’s language, culture, and lifestyle.

Badshah explained that his music is rooted in the hip-hop genre, where lyrics are often used competitively to challenge or undermine opponents. According to him, the lines in the song were meant in that context and were not directed at any woman or child. He also said that throughout his career he has tried to promote Haryana’s culture and language through his work.
Concluding the video, the rapper apologised to anyone who felt offended, asking people to consider him “a son of Haryana” and forgive him if the song had caused hurt.
The controversy escalated after the Haryana State Women’s Commission issued a notice asking Badshah to appear on March 13 to record his statement.
The notice followed a complaint filed by Savita Arya, president of Nari Tu Narayani Sanstha in Panipat, and Shiv Kumar of the Shiv Aarti Foundation.
In the complaint, they objected to certain lyrics in the song, alleging the use of inappropriate language and criticising visuals that show minor girls in school uniforms boarding a Haryana Roadways bus and throwing their school bags.
