Bantwal, Mar 7: In a case concerning the discovery of several Aadhaar cards on the banks of the Netravati river near the 10th milestone in Farangipete, authorities have officially filed a complaint against the postal department for alleged negligence.

The incident first came to light on March 3 when the discarded cards were spotted on the riverbank. The matter gained public attention on March 4, prompting officials to take notice. On March 5, the assistant superintendent of posts and the postal inspector visited the Pudu gram panchayat and the site where the cards were found; however, they were unable to recover any documents during that visit.

On Friday, March 6, officials from the Pudu gram panchayat managed to recover some of the Aadhaar cards and handed them over to the postal department. The department is now expected to conduct an internal inquiry to uncover the facts behind how these sensitive documents ended up abandoned.

Following the discovery, it was noted that several of the cards bore the official seal of the Pudu post office. This led to allegations that the postal staff had displayed gross negligence by failing to distribute the cards to the respective villagers and instead disposing of them.

Based on these findings, the revenue department officials filed a formal complaint at the Bantwal rural police station. They have sought legal action against the postal department for failing in its duty to deliver official government identification documents to citizens. The police have registered the case and are currently investigating the matter.
