Brahmavar, Feb 27: A Tempo Traveller (TT) went out of the driver’s control due to a technical fault, crossed the divider, collided with an oncoming car, and overturned in a dramatic accident near the Kota petrol bunk on National Highway 66 on Friday evening.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the mishap. The Tempo Traveller was en route from Kundapura to a showroom in Udupi for repairs when, upon nearing Kota, the engine reportedly suffered a sudden crank cut, causing the driver to lose control.

The speeding vehicle rammed into an electric pole located on the road divider, mounted the divider, and swerved onto the opposite carriageway. It then crashed into a car travelling from Udupi towards Kundapura before overturning on the road.
At the time of the accident, only the driver was present in the Tempo Traveller, which averted a major tragedy. He escaped with minor injuries and is said to be out of danger. The car that was hit was carrying four passengers, including two women travelling from Mangaluru to Hemmady. They miraculously escaped unhurt, although the car sustained significant damage.
The accident led to a temporary disruption of traffic on the highway. Kota police sub-inspector Praveen Kumar R rushed to the spot and oversaw the removal of the damaged vehicles to restore smooth traffic flow.
Meanwhile, as vehicles slowed down near the accident site, drivers of a Brezza and an Alto travelling from Kundapura towards Udupi were reportedly distracted by the scene. When the car ahead applied sudden brakes, the following vehicles collided with each other, resulting in a minor chain accident. Though the cars were damaged, no injuries were reported in the secondary mishap.
A case has been registered at Kota police station, and further investigation is under way.
