Valpoi, Feb 22: Pramod Sawant on Friday laid the foundation stone for a new two-lane bridge connecting Davem and Sanvordem villages in Sattari taluka, in the presence of Health Minister Vishwajit Rane.

The Rs 29.9 crore infrastructure project is being executed by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) for the Public Works Department (PWD). The proposed structure will include a two-lane bridge equipped with footpaths on both sides to ensure safer pedestrian movement, along with the development of approach roads.

The new bridge will replace the existing narrow single-lane crossing, significantly improving connectivity between the two villages and facilitating smoother traffic flow for daily commuters.

Speaking at the event, Sawant said the bridge is expected to reduce congestion, enhance road safety, and shorten travel distance by 7–8 kilometres for motorists heading towards Ponda and South Goa. It will also provide an alternative route that allows commuters to bypass the busy Valpoi market, leading to savings in time and fuel.

The chief minister added that the project would strengthen local connectivity, stimulate economic activity in the region, and improve overall quality of life for residents in nearby villages.
