Mangaluru, Feb 10: Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses have been granted exemption from earlier restrictions and will now be allowed to operate in the central areas of Mangaluru city, following a notification issued by the Dakshina Kannada district administration.

Earlier notifications issued by the deputy commissioner’s office on January 5, 1991, and April 6, 1993, had restricted the movement of KSRTC buses within the city limits. The Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner has now issued an order granting exemption from these restrictions.

The decision has been taken to benefit the general public, students and women by enabling them to avail the Shakti scheme, and to provide greater convenience to patients visiting public hospitals. The order states that the move aims to promote public mass transport in the central areas of Mangaluru city, ensure public convenience and safety, and reduce the use of private vehicles.
