Delhi’s Lavanya Gaur cracks UPSC, becomes IAS officer after leaving lucrative overseas career

New Delhi, Feb 8: Lavanya Gaur from Delhi has emerged as a source of inspiration for aspirants across the country after securing All India Rank 57 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2025, thereby realising her dream of becoming an IAS officer.

Lavanya’s success, however, is the result of years of perseverance, repeated failures, and unwavering self-belief. A bright student from her school days, she completed her schooling and higher education in Delhi before pursuing a BTech degree, during which she consistently performed well academically.

After completing her engineering degree, Lavanya secured an internship with Google, one of the world’s leading technology companies. She later worked with other multinational corporations and was reportedly earning a lucrative package abroad. Despite a stable career, attractive salary, and a comfortable lifestyle, she felt a lack of personal fulfilment.

Speaking about her decision, Lavanya said she wanted to contribute to society in a more meaningful way and not limit her efforts to personal growth alone. With this goal, she quit her corporate job and began preparing for the civil services examination.

The decision was not an easy one, as family members and friends initially expressed concern over her choice to leave a secure career. Her initial attempts at the UPSC examination ended in disappointment, as she failed to clear the exam in her first three attempts, narrowly missing the final selection on each occasion.

Refusing to give up, Lavanya analysed her shortcomings, revised her preparation strategy, and appeared for the examination once again. Her determination paid off in the fourth attempt when she secured AIR 57 and achieved selection into the Indian Administrative Service.

Lavanya Gaur’s journey from a high-paying corporate career to the civil services has now become a beacon of hope for young aspirants. Her story underlines the importance of perseverance, discipline, and clarity of purpose in achieving long-term goals.
