Mumbai, Feb 4: Mayuravarma Cultural Pratishtana, known in Mumbai and the hinterland for its folk, historical, literary, social and cultural initiatives, will organise its 16th annual convention on Sunday, February 8, at 3.45 pm.
The convention will be held at Mehta College, Sector 19, Airoli, under the chairmanship of pratishtana president T R Madhusudana. On the occasion, the 2026 ‘Chakradhari’ award, instituted annually by the pratishtana, will be conferred on Mohane Karnataka Seva Sangha, while the ‘Krushimitra’ award will be presented to Dr Tejaswini Ananthkumar, founder of Bengaluru-based ‘Adamya Chetana’.









Social workers Subbiah Aithappa Shetty, president of Jnana Vikas Mandal (Mehta Degree College, Airoli) V N Hegde, Rajesh Shetty, Gangadhara Bangera, Satish Kushal Shetty and Smt Suma Dwarakanath will attend the programme as guests and take part in the award presentation.
As part of the cultural segment, various dance troupes will present dance performances. An historical play titled Bandha Mukta, written by Vishwanath Dodmane based on an original story by Vishnu Bhatt Hosmane, will be staged by women activists of the pratishtana.
Office-bearers of Mayuravarma Cultural Pratishtana have appealed to cultural enthusiasts to attend the programme in large numbers.
About the pratishtana
Mayuravarma Cultural Pratishtana has been organising continuous programmes across the state for over one-and-a-half decades within its means, focusing on folk, social, literary and cultural themes. As part of the 75th Independence celebrations, it organised a series of seminars on ‘Freedom and Responsibility’ at various locations in Mumbai.
The pratishtana has also conducted distinctive thought-oriented programmes such as Adagoolajjiya Katha Kammata, Thavaru Mane Bandhavya, sessions on riddles and folk traditions, the richness of proverbs, and the contribution of sages to Sanatana Dharma. Along with these, it has undertaken public awareness campaigns on the dangers of unscientific electrical wiring, distributed low-cost cloth bags to promote environmental awareness, published books, staged plays, encouraged agricultural activities through the annual ‘Krushimitra’ award, and consistently honoured individuals or organisations engaged in social service with the ‘Chakradhari’ award.
