Joseph Pius Tauro dies of heart attack in J B Nagar

Mumbai, Jan 26: Joseph Pius Tauro (61), an unmarried resident of Andheri East, Mumbai, died of a massive heart attack late January 24 night at a private hotel in J B Nagar. He was the son of Thomas Iros Tauro of Perinje, Padyarabetu, Moodbidri in Karnataka’s coastal region.

Joseph reportedly suffered a severe cardiac arrest at the hotel where he was staying and collapsed. Despite immediate attention, he could not be revived.

He had earlier served as an officer at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi and later pursued independent professional engagements. Known for his deep knowledge and experience, Joseph maintained close associations with several prominent personalities across the country, including senior officials, political leaders and administrators. He was also actively involved in social service and philanthropic activities, sources said.

Joseph completed his primary education at Perinje, Paddandadka in Beltangady taluk and moved to Mumbai at around the age of 16 in search of livelihood. He later worked in Hyderabad and Delhi and is said to have lived away from his family for nearly four-and-a-half decades.

Upon learning of his death, Vijay S Shetty Panakaje, general secretary of the Mumbai BJP South Indian unit, traced Joseph’s family details and facilitated the arrival of his nephews John Tauro and Avil Tauro from his native place to Mumbai. The post-mortem examination was conducted at RN Cooper Municipal General Hospital, Andheri West. The mortal remains were later sent by ambulance to his native place on Sunday for final rites.
