New Delhi, Jan 15: India on Thursday expressed deep condolences to Thailand following a tragic train accident in the country’s northeastern region that claimed several lives and left dozens injured.
According to Thai authorities, at least 32 people were killed and nearly 70 others sustained injuries after a construction crane collapsed onto a passenger train in Nakhon Ratchasima province, derailing it on Wednesday.
In a message posted on X, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said India was deeply saddened by the loss of life and injuries caused by the accident. The ministry extended heartfelt condolences to the people and the Government of Thailand, expressed sympathy with the affected families, and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.

The incident occurred when a crane being used for the construction of a high-speed rail bridge fell onto a train traveling from Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani province, triggering the derailment.

He added that a detailed investigation into the cause of the accident is currently underway.
Earlier, Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn said he had directed concerned agencies to carry out a transparent and comprehensive probe to determine responsibility and prevent similar incidents in the future.
