Jerusalem, Jan 7: The Jerusalem District Court has sentenced two perpetrators involved in a terrorist car-ramming attack in the Romema neighbourhood of Jerusalem in April 2024 to 28 years of imprisonment each. The attack had left four people injured.
The convicts, residents of Hebron, include Muhammad Mahmoud and another individual who was a minor at the time of committing the offence. They were found guilty of four counts of attempted murder in the context of a terrorist act, along with related charges, following a coordinated attack involving car ramming and attempted shooting and stabbing.

According to the court’s verdict, the accused had conspired to carry out a terrorist attack with the intention of killing Jewish citizens. As part of the plan, they procured a vehicle, an improvised submachine gun, ammunition, knives and an axe, altered the vehicle’s licence plates and illegally entered Israel.
On reaching the Romema area, the attackers identified four Haredi citizens and deliberately rammed their vehicle into them, causing injuries. They then attempted to shoot and stab the victims, but failed to execute the plan fully due to a malfunction in the firearm.
Apart from awarding 28 years of imprisonment to each of the accused, the court also imposed suspended sentences, ordered financial compensation to the victims and directed confiscation of the weapons and materials used in the attack.
Observing the gravity of the crime, the court noted that the incident occurred “during a time of war on several fronts, when the country is bleeding and suffering from the consequences of the October 7 terrorist attack, and when security forces are working round-the-clock to protect the nation’s borders.”
