Fatorda, Dec 23: FC Goa return to the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda on Tuesday for their final continental outing of the year, as they host Tajikistan champions FC Istiklol in their concluding Group D match of the AFC Champions League Two in Margao.

Although qualification for the knockout stage is no longer possible, the fixture offers the Gaurs a chance to register points and end their Asian campaign on a positive note in front of their home supporters.

Continental matches at Fatorda hold special significance for FC Goa. Their previous AFC Champions League appearance at the venue remains a landmark moment, particularly the night they stood toe-to-toe with a star-studded Al Nassr side. That match also saw Brison Fernandes score India’s first-ever goal in the AFC Champions League, a moment that continues to inspire the club as they aim to draw pride from past performances.

FC Istiklol arrive in Goa in strong form, having already sealed their domestic league title for a record 12th straight season. The Tajik side will also take confidence from their 2-0 victory over FC Goa in the reverse fixture in Dushanbe and remain firmly in contention for a place in the knockout rounds.

FC Goa, meanwhile, come into the match buoyed by recent domestic success. Just two weeks ago, they lifted the Super Cup for the second consecutive year at the same Fatorda Stadium, defeating East Bengal on penalties in a tense final. The triumph has strengthened the team’s confidence and reinforced their connection with the home crowd.

Head coach Manolo Márquez will be keen for his side to carry that momentum into their final Asian assignment. While the continental campaign has posed challenges, the focus remains on delivering a committed performance, playing with freedom and giving fans a memorable night.

Goalkeeper Lara reflected the team’s mindset ahead of the clash, acknowledging the difficulties of the campaign but stressing the squad’s unity and determination to represent India with pride on the continental stage.

With pride at stake, recent silverware on both sides, and the Fatorda lights set for one last continental night, FC Goa will be eager to close their AFC Champions League Two journey with a spirited performance against FC Istiklol.
