Mangaluru: Yenepoya Dental College conducts anti-ragging awareness programme

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Yenepoya Dental College had organized an Anti-Ragging awareness programme on December 11 at 10:45 am, in compliance with the guidelines of the Dental Council of India (DCI). The programme aimed to create awareness among students about the prevention of ragging and to promote a safe, respectful, and ragging-free academic environment.

The programme began with an invocation by Ameen, final year BDS student, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by dignitaries including Dr Laxmikanth Chatra, principal; Dr Hasan Sarfaraz, vice principal; Dr Sham S Bhat, dean, Faculty of Dentistry; Dr Maji Jose, dean of Student Affairs; Dr Shivasharan Shetty, DCI member; Dr Sanath Shetty, Anti-Ragging Nodal officer; Dr Fahad Mohammad, convenor, Anti-Ragging unit; Virupaksha, sub-inspector, Ullal Police; and Dr Rajesh Shetty, HoD, Prosthodontics.

In his welcome address, Dr Laxmikanth Chatra reiterated the institution’s zero-tolerance policy towards ragging. Dr Maji Jose highlighted the anti-ragging measures and monitoring mechanisms in place at the institution. The guest speaker, Dr Shivasharan Shetty, member, DCI, delivered an insightful talk on the psychological, academic, and legal consequences of ragging, emphasizing the seriousness of the offense under the law.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Fahad Mohammad. The event was attended by BDS students from all years, interns, faculty members, and representatives from the local police.

The programme successfully enhanced awareness about anti-ragging regulations, reinforced the college’s commitment to a ragging-free campus, and promoted mutual respect and professional ethics among students.
