Beltangady, Sept 13: After nearly two decades of separation, an emotional reunion unfolded at Makki in Malavantike village of Beltangady taluk when 105-year-old Seethamma met her 85-year-old daughter Sushila.

Seethamma has 11 children, with Sushila being her eldest. The 105-year-old lives with her family at Makki, while Sushila lives with her children at Phagare in Mithabail village.

Despite a long-standing desire to see her mother, Sushila had been unable to make the journey for years due to her age and ill health. The difficult terrain leading to Seethamma’s home had made the journey even more challenging.

There is no proper road to Seethamma’s house. The journey involves travelling by jeep through a difficult forest track, followed by a 1.5-km descent down a hill and a stream crossing. With the mother and daughter living far apart, nearly 20 years had passed since their last meeting, leaving only old memories of their time together.

Grandchildren take on the difficult journey

With Seethamma too old to travel to meet her daughter and Sushila unable to visit because of ill health, the grandchildren decided to fulfil their grandmother’s long-cherished wish.

They took Sushila by jeep through a rough road cutting through dense forest. However, the jeep could not reach Seethamma’s house. The family then helped Sushila walk slowly along the forest trail before finally reaching the house and bringing the long-awaited reunion to reality.

‘Now, we have finally made it happen’

“It was our wish as grandchildren to take our grandmother to meet her mother. However, because of our grandmother’s advanced age and the lack of a proper road to the great-grandmother’s house, it was not possible. Now, we have finally been able to make it happen,” said grandson Keshava.

The meeting of the 105-year-old mother and her 85-year-old daughter after nearly 20 years turned into a poignant family moment, with the difficult journey finally giving way to a long-awaited reunion.
