Kanpur, Dec 9: A monk who returned to his native village after 36 years was compelled to seek police intervention when his family refused to recognise him and denied him access to his documents.

Monk Sarvesh Sachan, earlier known as Kallu and son of Indrapal, had left his home in Dharamangadpur village under Sajeti police station limits in 1989 after completing his graduation from DAV College, Kanpur. He has since lived as a monk at Tauni Devi Dham in Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh.

Sachan returned to his village to collect documents required for the SIR exercise, but his family refused to accept his identity and allegedly withheld his papers. Officers at Sajeti police station stepped in, verified his identity through the documents he carried, and permitted him to retrieve his marksheet and related records.

The unusual homecoming drew attention in the area, with locals witnessing the emotional and tense exchange before officials confirmed the monk’s identity and helped him reclaim his documents.
