Lucy Hamilton wins WBBL Young Gun award; Meg Lanning secures third Golden Bat

Daijiworld Media Network - Melbourne

Melbourne, Dec 8: Teen left-arm pacer Lucy Hamilton has been crowned the Young Gun award winner for WBBL season 11, while former Australia captain Meg Lanning claimed the Golden Bat for the third time in her career.

Hamilton, who is set to join the Delhi Capitals for the 2026 WPL season, spearheaded Brisbane Heat’s new-ball attack during a tough campaign and finished with eight wickets, including best figures of 2/28. The young quick also made her mark by dismissing top-tier batters such as Meg Lanning, Beth Mooney, and Tahlia McGrath. She previously captained Australia at the Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Malaysia.

Lanning, who turned out for the Melbourne Stars and will represent UP Warriorz in WPL 2026, topped the season’s run charts with 430 runs at an outstanding average of 53.75. Her tally included a career-best 135 off 74 balls against the Sydney Sixers, cementing her position among the league’s most dominant batters.

Australia leg-spinner Georgia Wareham, set to play for Gujarat Giants in WPL 2026, enjoyed her finest WBBL season yet to secure the Golden Arm award. Playing for the Melbourne Renegades, Wareham claimed 19 wickets at an impressive 10.94.

Cricket Australia’s Executive General Manager of Big Bash Leagues, Alistair Dobson, congratulated the award winners, noting the high level of competition:

“Lucy Hamilton, Meg Lanning and Georgia Wareham have all delivered exceptional campaigns. While celebrating their achievements, it’s worth noting that two of them come from teams that didn’t reach the Finals — a testament to how close and competitive this season has been.”

The WBBL season 11 Player of the Tournament will be announced on Wednesday, followed by the Team of the Tournament on Thursday.

Finals week begins Tuesday night with the Perth Scorchers taking on the Melbourne Stars in the knockout at the WACA Ground. The Sydney Sixers will face the winner in Thursday’s challenger at North Sydney Oval, and the Hobart Hurricanes will host the grand final at Ninja Stadium on Saturday.
