Mumbai youth injured after saving friend from speeding police jeep

Mumbai, Dec 2: In a dramatic display of courage, a 20-year-old ITI student saved his teenage friend from a speeding police jeep at Vile Parle West on Sunday night. The student, Raghuveer Prahlad Kumbhar, pushed 15-year-old Gauri Satelkar out of harm’s way just seconds before the jeep rammed into him.

The impact left Raghuveer with serious injuries to his chest, leg and hand, while Gauri escaped unhurt.

According to Raghuveer’s family, the police jeep was being driven by a constable who appeared to be heavily drunk. Immediately after the accident, the constable allegedly told Raghuveer he would accompany him to the hospital — but fled the spot moments later.

Raghuveer, who resides with his parents at Sati Prasad Society opposite D-Mart in Andheri West, managed to capture video footage of the constable, which the family claims clearly shows him in an intoxicated state.

The Vile Parle police have registered an FIR against the constable and launched an investigation into the incident. Police officials said further action will be taken based on medical reports and forensic examination.

Raghuveer is currently recovering, while his family is demanding strict action against the constable for negligence and fleeing the scene after causing the accident.
