Inter-house debate competition ignites young minds at St Theresa’s School

Media Release

Mangaluru, Nov 27: The school auditorium came alive with energy, intellect, and spirited discussion as St Theresa’s School hosted its much-awaited inter-house debate competition for both the junior and senior categories. The event provided a vibrant platform for students to express their views, think critically, and engage in healthy argumentation.

The programme commenced with a solemn prayer, invoking God’s blessings for confidence, clarity, and fairness. This was followed by a warm welcome address, extending heartfelt greetings to the principal, vice principal, judges, teachers, and students.

We were honoured to have Jasmine Moreira and Ritty D’Souza as the esteemed judges for the competition. Their presence and expertise added great value to the event.

The juniors debated on the thought-provoking topic: 'Should pen and paper be replaced by tabs?'. The young speakers presented their views with enthusiasm and conviction. Their clarity of expression and confident delivery reflected excellent preparation and growing communication skills.

The seniors debated on the topic: 'AI or human knowledge – who rules creativity?'. This category displayed remarkable depth and critical thinking. Students impressed the judges and audience with balanced arguments, strong logic, and sharp rebuttals—showcasing exceptional debating talent and presence of mind.

The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks, acknowledging the contribution of the principal, vice principal, judges, teachers, and participants for making the programme a resounding success. The debate competition not only enriched the students’ learning experience but also strengthened their confidence, reasoning ability, and analytical thinking.

St Theresa’s School continues to encourage such activities that nurture leadership, communication, and critical thinking among students.
