Panaji, Nov 17: The Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) is preparing a proposal to modernize water supply across its industrial estates with smart flow meters, automated operations, and real-time water quality monitoring.
According to GIDC officials, the initiative aims to strengthen water supply, improve quality, and enhance operational efficiency. The plan includes the supply, installation, and commissioning of smart flow meters, wireless water level sensors, and water quality transmitters, all integrated into a cloud-based monitoring system.
The project aligns with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT)’s Industrial Park Rating System (IPRS), which evaluates industrial estates on infrastructure, connectivity, business support, and environmental and safety standards. Under IPRS 2.0, continuous water and air quality monitoring has become a key benchmark.

Key features of the proposed system include:
• Automated pump operations based on real-time tank levels and pressure readings.
• Prevention of overflows and dry-run incidents.
• Centralized data collection for monitoring, analysis, and billing.
• Leakage and pilferage detection, along with tracking water drawn from PWD or WRD sources.
• Unit-wise consumption updates via the GIDC online portal.
Officials expect the upgrade to enhance water supply reliability, improve industrial water quality, and increase overall efficiency across estates. The estimated project cost is still under finalization.
This initiative signals a move toward smart infrastructure in Goa’s industrial zones, in line with national efforts to modernize industrial parks.
