Shubman Gill retires hurt after neck strain scare in Kolkata test

Kolkata, Nov 15: India captain Shubman Gill retired hurt during the morning session on Day 2 of the Kolkata Test after appearing to suffer a neck sprain. Gill walked in to bat right after the drinks break, following Simon Harmer’s dismissal of Washington Sundar.

Facing Harmer from around the wicket, Gill defended the first delivery before going for a slog sweep off the next ball, striking a clean boundary. However, he was immediately seen clutching the back of his neck, visibly in discomfort.

The Indian physio rushed in as Gill struggled to move his head freely. After a brief assessment, the skipper opted to walk off the field, retiring hurt. Rishabh Pant replaced him at the crease as play resumed.
