Mumbai, Nov 12: Veteran Bollywood star Dharmendra, aged 89, was discharged from Breach Candy Hospital in South Mumbai on Wednesday morning and will continue his recovery at home, his family confirmed. The actor had been admitted a few days ago for routine tests, the details of which were not disclosed by the family or hospital authorities.

In an official statement, the family requested privacy and respect from the media and public. “Mr. Dharmendra has been discharged from the hospital and will continue his recovery at home. We kindly request everyone to refrain from speculation and respect his and the family’s privacy at this time. We sincerely thank everyone for their love, prayers, and good wishes,” said Sunny Deol’s PR representative.

Dr Pratit Samdani of Breach Candy Hospital confirmed the discharge, stating, “Dharmendra ji was discharged from the hospital around 7:30 am. He will now receive treatment at home as per the family’s decision.” An ambulance was seen transporting the veteran actor to his elder son Sunny Deol’s residence in Juhu.

The announcement comes a day after several media outlets mistakenly reported Dharmendra’s demise. The family quickly refuted these reports. Daughter Esha Deol wrote on Instagram, “The media seems to be in overdrive spreading false news. My father is stable and recovering. We request everyone to respect our family’s privacy. Thank you for your prayers for Papa’s speedy recovery.”

Actor-politician Hema Malini, Dharmendra’s wife, also criticised the “irresponsible” media coverage on X, stating, “What is happening is unforgivable! How can responsible channels spread false news about a person who is responding to treatment and recovering? Please give due respect to the family.”

Several Bollywood celebrities, including Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, and Salman Khan, had visited Dharmendra during his hospital stay to wish him a speedy recovery.

The family has urged fans and media alike to continue sending their good wishes while respecting the veteran actor’s privacy during this time.
