Jeddah, Nov 5: An Indian national has died in Jeddah after being shot during a financial dispute linked to the purchase of illegal substances, Saudi authorities confirmed on Tuesday.

According to Jeddah Governorate Police, two Ethiopian nationals were involved in the incident, which took place in a mountainous area during an illicit transaction. The confrontation reportedly escalated into an argument over money, during which one of the suspects opened fire, critically injuring the Indian man.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment but later succumbed to his injuries.

Police said both suspects were arrested for violating Saudi border security laws and were found to be engaged in drug and contraband trafficking. They have been referred to the Public Prosecution for further legal action.

Authorities reaffirmed the Kingdom’s strict stance against border violations and illegal trade, adding that all necessary legal procedures are underway.

The Indian embassy in Saudi Arabia has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident. Investigations indicate that the Ethiopian suspects were part of a broader smuggling network operating in the region.
