Mangaluru, Nov 4: A Mangaluru resident has reportedly been defrauded of Rs 32.06 lac in an elaborate online trading scam, police said. A case has been registered at CEN police station.
According to the complaint, on September 9, the victim received a Facebook friend request from a woman identified as Kavya Shetty while browsing social media. The complainant accepted the request and began exchanging messages. Kavya allegedly told her that she was involved in trading work in Mumbai and that it yielded significant profits, persuading the victim to participate.

“Kavya sent me a link via WhatsApp, asking me to join a trading application. When I opened it, I was required to fill in my personal details including my name and email ID,” the complainant stated.
Following the instructions, the victim made an initial payment of Rs 40,000 on September 13 to purchase shares. A small profit of Rs 9,504 was credited to her account, building her trust. She later invested an additional Rs 2,00,000, which reflected a profit of Rs 23,760. Encouraged by these returns, she gradually transferred a total of Rs 32,06,880 to various bank accounts provided by Kavya Shetty between September 13 and October 24.
However, no further profits were credited, and the invested money was not returned. The complainant alleged that she had been deliberately deceived.
Police confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant sections, and investigations are underway.
