Bengaluru woman held for brutally killing pet dog in lift; viral CCTV footage reveals shocking act

Bengaluru, Nov 3: Bagalur police on Sunday arrested a 29-year-old woman for brutally killing a pet dog inside a lift in an apartment on Kannur Road, Bengaluru. The shocking incident came to light after CCTV footage of the act went viral on social media, capturing the horrifying act in full.

According to a senior police officer, Rashika K R, an MBA student and pet owner, had hired Pushpalatha, a native of Tamil Nadu, about a month ago to take care of her pets. Pushpalatha was being paid Rs 23,000 per month, along with accommodation in the same apartment.

On October 31, Pushpalatha had taken two pets for a walk. While returning, she entered the lift and allegedly killed one of the pets, Goosi, by slamming it against the lift wall. She then began crying and returned to the flat.

When Rashika questioned her about the pet’s death, Pushpalatha feigned ignorance. Suspicious, Rashika checked the CCTV footage with the help of the apartment management and was horrified to witness the brutal act. She immediately lodged a complaint with the Bagalur police.

During interrogation, Pushpalatha claimed she was frustrated with the pet’s continuous barking. However, police investigations revealed that she had recently stolen valuables from Rashika’s house and had been warned against repeating the offence. Authorities suspect she killed the pet as an act of revenge.

Police are continuing to interrogate Pushpalatha and have registered a case under relevant sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. The CCTV footage, which shows the appalling act in the lift, has sparked outrage on social media and among animal welfare groups.

If you have no time to take care of your pet don't keep pets. Some people keep pets and let them dirty their neighbours yard.

There are so many instances, where people who are assigned to take care of the loved ones, harm them! It specially happens with those, who are taking care of your parents, children & pets!!! Be careful while assigning this job to anyone! People change with time & circumstances, hence frequent review & personal attention should be your priority..

@Rs. 23000 per month including free accommodation, is it right to call her maid? She should be called manager. And she managed well, given the negative feedback on her heist by eliminating the liking of the owner. Government does not pay that much to the driver it appoints. The owner associated value more than that desirable to maid and maid/manager made her pay through the nose.
