Mangaluru, Nov 2: A violent air conditioner explosion on Sunday, November 2, in the evening wreaked havoc in a house at Adyar Padavu, on the outskirts of Mangaluru, leaving furniture, clothes, cash, passports, and other valuables badly damaged.
The house belongs to Faizal, who was not at home at the time of the incident, and the property had been securely locked. Neighbours noticed smoke billowing from the residence and immediately forced open the door to tackle the blaze. “We saw smoke pouring out and the door was locked, so we broke it open and tried to control the fire,” said a nearby resident.

Faizal, who has been living elsewhere, had recently begun preparing to move back into the house. Reports indicate that an air conditioner had been installed in the property just four or five days ago.
On Sunday evening, the AC unit suddenly exploded. With the house doors closed, smoke quickly filled the interiors, igniting several household items.
“The fire has destroyed much of the furniture, clothing, cash, passports and other valuables in the house,” a local source said. Fortunately, no one was injured in the explosion, but the property damage is substantial.
Authorities are investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
Preliminary observations suggest a malfunction in the newly installed AC unit may have triggered the fire, but officials have yet to confirm the findings.
This incident has raised concerns about the safety of newly installed electrical appliances, with residents urged to take precautions and ensure proper installation and regular maintenance.
