Vartika Singh to debut in Bollywood with courtroom thriller ‘Haq’

Mumbai, Oct 31: Former Miss Universe India and supermodel Vartika Singh is all set to make her Bollywood debut with the upcoming courtroom thriller ‘Haq’, starring Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam in lead roles.

Directed by Suparn Varma, known for acclaimed projects like The Family Man and Rana Naidu, the film is produced by Junglee Pictures, in association with Insomnia Films and Baweja Studios. The movie is slated to release on November 7.

In the film, Vartika plays a woman who is unpredictable and emotionally intense, with her character deeply intertwined in a high-stakes legal case that pits Emraan and Yami against each other in court. Director Varma described her performance as “controlled fire.”

To prepare for the role, the debutant underwent intensive workshops and dialect training, exploring what Varma termed as “the quiet machinery of guilt.”

Haq is inspired by Jigna Vora’s book “Bano: Bharat Ki Beti”, offering a fictionalised take on the historic Shah Bano case—a landmark legal battle that remains socially relevant even decades later.

Speaking about the adaptation, author Jigna Vora said, “The teaser has already created an impact. I’m sure the story will connect deeply with people. Knowing how I’ve written it, I’m confident that Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi have done justice to their roles.”

When asked if the story was personally inspired, Vora added, “Yes. Shah Bano was a remarkably strong woman who, even after being divorced in her late sixties, fought for her rights through the courts. Her courage and emotional journey moved me deeply.”

With its powerful performances, thought-provoking narrative, and emotional depth, Haq promises to deliver a compelling courtroom drama that resonates with audiences across generations.
