Mackay, Aug 14: Bangladesh produced a commanding performance against Australia in the first Test of the ongoing series in Mackay, with Tanzid Hasan scripting history with a memorable century.

After restricting Australia to 198 in the first innings, Bangladesh responded strongly with the bat. Following the dismissal of Shadman Islam for 20, Tanzid stood firm and went on to score a brilliant 101 off 197 deliveries.

With his century, Tanzid became the first Bangladeshi batter to score a Test hundred in Australia against Australia, marking a significant milestone in his career.

Mominul Haque contributed 49, while Najmul Hossain Shanto also completed a half-century as Bangladesh reached 260/3 by the 73rd over, taking a 62-run lead over the hosts.

Australia struggled after being sent in to bat first, with Steve Smith's 71 providing the main resistance. The rest of the batting line-up failed to build substantial partnerships as Bangladesh's bowling attack kept the pressure on.

Hasan Mahmud was the pick of the Bangladesh bowlers, claiming six wickets. Taskin Ahmed and Ebadot Hossain took two wickets each to help bowl Australia out for 198.

Tanzid leads Bangladesh's charge

Tanzid's 101 was one of the standout knocks of the match and has given Bangladesh a strong platform to press for a memorable victory against the hosts.

With Bangladesh holding a 62-run lead and seven wickets in hand, the visitors remain in a strong position as the Test progresses.
