Mumbai, Oct 29: The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, appealing to confer the Padma Shri Award (Posthumously) on veteran actor Satish Shah in recognition of his remarkable contribution to Indian cinema and television.

In a heartfelt letter sent on Tuesday, FWICE described Shah as a “rare and gifted artist” whose performances brought “joy, laughter, and emotion to millions across the nation.” The federation, representing 36 affiliated associations and thousands of members from the Indian film, television, and digital sectors, urged the Prime Minister to honour the late actor’s enduring legacy.

“Honouring him with the Padma Shri Award would be a most fitting tribute to a life devoted to art, culture, and service through entertainment,” the letter stated. It also praised Shah’s generosity and support for welfare initiatives within the film fraternity, recalling his compassion and encouragement towards fellow artistes and technicians.

FWICE said Shah’s passing had left “an emotional void in the hearts of all who knew him and in the creative world he helped shape.”

Satish Shah, known for his iconic roles in Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, Main Hoon Na, and Om Shanti Om, passed away in Mumbai at the age of 74. His funeral was held at Pawan Hans Crematorium, Vile Parle West, and was attended by several industry colleagues who paid their final respects.

The beloved actor is survived by his wife, designer Madhu Shah.
