Ibrahim Ali Khan reflects on a humbling debut year in films, looks ahead to ‘Diler’

Mumbai, Oct 26: Actor Ibrahim Ali Khan, son of Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh, has had a sobering first year in Bollywood after making his acting debut earlier this year. Speaking candidly about his journey, Ibrahim admitted that he may have rushed into his career too early.

In an interview with Esquire India, Ibrahim said, “I’m not saying I took my chance for granted, but I stepped into the industry like, ‘Ho jaayega’. I was 21 when I began shooting—others start at 26, 27, 28—and I now feel I could have been more mindful of the scale of what was going to happen.” He also revealed that he is still working on overcoming a speech issue and preparing for roles.

Ibrahim made his debut with Nadaaniyan, released on Netflix in March, directed by Shauna Gautam, featuring Mahima Chaudhry, Suniel Shetty, Dia Mirza, and Jugal Hansraj. The film received largely negative reviews, earning a 12% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In July, he starred in Sarzameen alongside Kajol and Prithviraj Sukumaran, which was similarly panned by critics.

Despite the setbacks, Ibrahim looks to his filmy lineage for inspiration. “I usually always have self-doubt. Whenever I feel unsure, all this is a reminder of who’s at home. You’re Saif Ali Khan’s kid. Bebo’s (Kareena Kapoor) in your family. You should be able to do it. You should be smashing it,” he said.

Looking forward, Ibrahim will next be seen in the sports drama Diler, directed by Kunal Deshmukh, which tells the story of a marathon runner. The film, also starring Sreeleela, is expected to release in 2026.

Despite a challenging start, Ibrahim remains determined to learn from his experiences and carve a niche for himself in the industry.
