Munich, Oct 23: It was a dream Champions League debut for 17-year-old Lennart Karl, who scripted history on Wednesday night by becoming Bayern Munich’s youngest-ever goalscorer in the tournament, breaking a record previously held by Jamal Musiala.
The teenager’s moment of brilliance came just five minutes into Bayern’s clash against Club Brugge, when he picked up a pass from Jonathan Tah, glided past defender Brandon Mechele, and unleashed a curling left-foot strike that soared over goalkeeper Nordin Jackers.

The Allianz Arena erupted as Karl sprinted to the corner flag, sliding on his knees in celebration before being embraced by teammates Harry Kane and Aleksandar Pavlovic. The young winger later received a standing ovation when he was substituted in the 69th minute.
Speaking after the match, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany praised Karl’s performance but cautioned against overexposure. “I’m not a fan of hype, and now he will be getting some of that. I’m a fan of training and calm,” Kompany told DAZN. “His performance was good. Everyone knows he can score goals, but he needs to stay grounded.”
Karl’s early strike set the tone for a 4-0 rout, with Harry Kane netting his 20th goal of the season, Luis Díaz scoring his first Champions League goal for Bayern since joining from Liverpool, and Nicolas Jackson sealing the win with a rebound in the 79th minute.
At 17 years and 242 days, Karl shattered Musiala’s previous record — set when Musiala was 121 days older during Bayern’s round-of-16 win over Lazio four years ago, according to UEFA.
Adding to the symbolism, Karl wore the same No. 42 shirt that Musiala donned on that historic night — marking the rise of another young Bayern prodigy on Europe’s biggest stage.
