Chennai, Oct 9: In a major breakthrough, Madhya Pradesh police on Wednesday detained Ranganathan, the owner of Tamil Nadu-based Sresan Pharma, the company accused of manufacturing the adulterated Coldrif cough syrup that has claimed the lives of several children across states.
According to official sources, a special team from Chhindwara police traced and arrested Ranganathan in Chennai earlier this morning. The arrest comes days after a case was registered against Sresan Pharma following the tragic deaths of at least 20 children who allegedly consumed the toxic cough syrup. Authorities had also announced a reward of Rs 20,000 for information leading to his arrest.

Confirming the development, Chhindwara Superintendent of Police, Shukla, said, “A police team from Chhindwara has detained the owner of the company which manufactures ‘Coldrif’ cough syrup.” He further added that the investigation is ongoing to ascertain how the contaminated batch entered the market.
Meanwhile, the situation in Madhya Pradesh remains distressing as the death toll continues to climb. Three more children—identified as Dhani Deharia (1.5 years) from Tamia, Jyanshu Yaduvanshi (2 years) from Junnardev, and Vedansh Pawar (2.5 years) from Ridhora—succumbed to the effects of the suspected poisonous syrup while undergoing treatment at hospitals in Nagpur within the past 24 hours.
Authorities have launched a comprehensive probe into the manufacturing and distribution process of Coldrif syrup, as forensic teams work to determine the exact composition of the contaminated product. The tragic incident has sparked outrage among parents and health authorities, prompting calls for stricter regulation and quality control within the pharmaceutical industry.
Officials have assured that stringent action will be taken against all those responsible for the tragedy that has shaken families across Madhya Pradesh and beyond.
