Mumbai, Sep 30: A 35-year-old man has been arrested for performing stunts and harassing women in the ladies’ compartment of a local train at Borivali Railway Station, officials said.

The accused, Nathu Govind Hansa, a resident of Valsad, Gujarat, came under the scanner after a viral video showed him peering into the ladies’ compartment, making obscene remarks, and performing stunts on the footboard of the adjacent luggage section.

The incident reportedly took place on September 11, when a female passenger travelling on a Dadar Fast Local from Virar to Andheri at 6:00 pm reported the harassment. The Borivali Government Railway Police (GRP) swung into action after the video triggered widespread outrage on social media.

Using CCTV footage and the Face Recognition System (FRS), police identified Hansa and formed a special team to track him. He was arrested on Monday after his photo matched the viral footage.

Borivali GRP Senior Police Inspector Datta Khuperkar said the accused’s actions made female passengers feel uncomfortable, and emphasised that the safety of women commuters is a top priority. Passengers were urged to immediately report any such incidents to ensure strict action against perpetrators.

The arrest highlights the increasing use of technology and surveillance systems by Mumbai Railway Police to curb harassment and ensure commuter safety.
