Mumbai, Sep 29: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday reviewed the flood situation across the state and directed emergency systems in the Konkan region to remain on high alert following a red warning for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad districts.

Shinde held a video conference with Konkan Divisional Commissioner Vijay Suryavanshi and the collectors of Thane, Raigad and Palghar. “Top priority should be given to preventing harm to humans and animals,” a release from the Thane district administration quoted him as saying.

He instructed officials to stay fully prepared for any emergency and to keep a close watch on dangerous buildings in Thane, Bhiwandi and Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation limits to ensure swift evacuation if needed. In Raigad, he directed immediate evacuation of areas vulnerable to landslides.

Shinde also reviewed the heavy rain and flooding in Marathwada districts, including Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Beed, Nanded and Ahilyanagar. He said local MLAs and office-bearers have been asked to provide food and essential items to affected residents.

Assuring quick relief to farmers hit by the rains, Shinde said the state government will extend assistance by relaxing certain conditions to ensure immediate help.
