Mangaluru, Sep 1: A tragic accident occurred on Sunday night at Mukka Junction when a car rammed into a two-wheeler, killing the rider on the spot and leaving the pillion boy injured.
The deceased has been identified as Karunakar Shetty (61), a resident of Chelairu. The injured boy is Vishwanath (16), son of Hanumanth, originally from North Karnataka and currently residing in Chelairu. He has been admitted to a private hospital in Mukka for treatment.

According to reports, Karunakar Shetty, who worked at a shop in Mukka, was returning home on his two-wheeler after closing the shop on Sunday night. He had given a ride to his neighbour Vishwanath, who had come to buy milk. While they were crossing National Highway 66, a car heading towards Suratkal from Haleyangadi collided with their vehicle.
Due to the impact of the crash, Karunakar Shetty was thrown onto the road and died on the spot. Vishwanath sustained serious injuries to his limbs and is undergoing treatment.
The car driver, identified as Muhammad Taufiq of Haleyangadi, has been taken into custody by the traffic police. Mangaluru north traffic police visited the spot, conducted an inspection, and have initiated further legal procedures.
