Bantwal: 47-year-old man held for allegedly stalking minor girl

Bantwal, Aug 21: A case has been registered at the Bantwal Town police station after a 47-year-old man allegedly followed and kept watch on a 16-year-old minor girl who was pursuing her education within the Bantwal Town police station limits.

According to the complaint lodged by the girl's mother, an unidentified middle-aged man had been following the girl while she travelled by bus for the past few days. On the evening of August 19, 2026, when the girl arrived at the Kalladka bus stand, the same unidentified man was allegedly watching her.

Frightened by the incident, the girl went to the place where her mother was working and informed her about the matter. The complainant then came to the bus stand along with the owner of her office, where they found the unidentified man present.

When questioned, the man identified himself as Jayanth and left the place.

Based on the complaint, Bantwal Town police registered a case under Crime No. 116/2026 under Section 78 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and Section 12 of the POCSO Act, 2012, and initiated an investigation.

The accused, identified as Jayanth, a resident of Sarpady in Bantwal, was taken into custody, questioned and produced before the competent court.
