Bengaluru, Aug 23: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of widespread heavy rainfall across Karnataka till August 30, covering coastal, Malnad, and interior districts. Flood concerns have already been raised in parts of Belagavi and Chikkodi due to continuous downpours.

According to the IMD, though several regions are already witnessing persistent rainfall, the state is likely to experience widespread showers for the next six days.

Till August 25, scattered to widespread moderate rainfall is expected in coastal and Malnad districts, while interior districts may witness light, isolated showers. From August 26 onwards, heavy rainfall is likely to intensify in coastal and adjoining Malnad regions.

Heavy rains are particularly expected in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada on August 26. Similarly, Bidar, Kalaburagi, and Yadgir may witness thunderstorms with wind speeds of 40–50 kmph.

The IMD report noted heavy rain in Dharwad, Gadag, Davanagere, Haveri, and Uttara Kannada, which has caused damage to houses and agricultural lands.

Meanwhile, continuous rains in Maharashtra have worsened the situation in Belagavi, especially in Chikkodi, where overflowing reservoirs have submerged bridges and disrupted normal life. People living near riverbanks have been advised to remain alert, while several families, along with their livestock, have started moving to safer places due to the flood threat.
