Udupi, Aug 23: The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court in Udupi on Saturday granted bail to Mahesh Shetty Thimarodi, who had been taken into judicial custody for allegedly making derogatory and provocative remarks against BJP national general secretary B L Santhosh.
Thimarodi was arrested from his residence following a complaint filed by Rajeev Kulal, president of the Udupi Rural BJP unit, at the Brahmavar police station. The complaint alleged that Thimarodi made inflammatory statements against the senior BJP leader.

While granting bail, presiding judge Nagesh N A issued a stern warning to Thimarodi, cautioning him against repeating such remarks and emphasising that similar incidents should not recur.
Speaking to the media after securing bail, Mahesh Thimarodi said, “Our struggle will continue, and I commend the lawyers who cooperated. We should have received bail yesterday. I was not aware that the anonymous person had been arrested. Let a proper inquiry take place—that would be good. I will not comment on Sujatha Bhat. No one can mislead us except Annappa Manjunath. Today, everything has gone well. Sujatha Bhat is not part of our struggle. We do not trust those who claim injustice; we trust in a courteous and rightful struggle. Why should we respond to what the media chooses to highlight?”
The court’s direction came after the case was formally registered at Brahmavar police station, which led to Thimarodi’s arrest earlier this week.
