Udupi, Aug 22: For the first time in the district, two individuals involved in narcotics cases have been booked under the Goonda Act invoked through the NDPS Act. The Karnataka High Court has upheld the detention order.
The Goonda Act has been invoked against Kabir alias Kabir Hussain, an active member of the notorious Garuda gang, and Krishna Achari alias Krishna Jalgaar, who was engaged in drug trafficking.

Kabir, who operated in Udupi as well as Dakshina Kannada and Chikkamagaluru districts, has a long criminal history. Since 2005, a total of 17 cases have been registered against him. Of these, he has been convicted in two, acquitted in eight due to hostile witnesses, and three were settled through compromise. Two cases are still under trial, while two others are under investigation. At present, he is lodged in Mysuru Central Jail.
The second accused, Krishna Achari of Brahmavar police station limits, has four cases registered against him, of which he has been convicted in two, while the remaining two are under trial.
