Karnataka govt announces 50% discount on pending traffic fines

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Aug 22: Bringing relief to vehicle owners with long-pending fines, the state government has once again announced a 50% discount on traffic violation penalties. An official order has been issued granting this concession for a limited period.

Earlier, the government had introduced a similar discount scheme, which led to the collection of a substantial amount in pending fines. Following its success, the government has now reintroduced the scheme, allowing motorists to clear their dues by paying just half of the penalty amount between August 23 and September 9.

According to the official notification issued by Pushpa V S, under-secretary of the state transport department, the scheme will remain in effect until September 12. The order specifies that the concession is applicable only to cases recorded under the police department’s e-challan system up to February 11, 2023.

The government has clarified that this offer is targeted at those who have not paid their fines for several years. For violations recorded after February 12, 2023, a similar discount scheme may be considered next year.
