34th Konkani Manyata Diwas celebrated at Kalaangann, Shaktinagar

Mangaluru, Aug 20: The 34th Konkani Manyata Diwas celebration was inaugurated on August 20, at Kalaangann, Shaktinagar, under the joint aegis of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy and Mandd Sobhann.

The event began with a procession carrying the Konkani flag, followed by its hoisting. Addressing the gathering as chief guest, former MCC member Ranganath C Kini said, “It is heartening to see so many children and youth gathered here. Various talents will be showcased today. May you all take forward the mission of preserving and promoting Konkani language.”

Academy president Joachim Stany Alvares welcomed the gathering and delivered the introductory address. “Konkani is among the 22 officially recognized languages of India. On August 20, 1992, our language received its due recognition, and we continue to celebrate this occasion as Konkani Manyata Diwas. Let this be an inspiration for the youth,” he said.

Mandd Sobhann president Louis J Pinto, academy members Naveen Lobo, Rony Crasta, Dayanand Madkekar, Sapna Crasta, and Akshata Nayak were present.

Later, various cultural competitions were held. A total of 19 teams from high schools and colleges across the undivided district participated.
