Udupi, Aug 18: In view of heavy rainfall and a red alert issued for the region, the Udupi district administration has declared a holiday on Tuesday, August 19, for all educational institutions, including Anganwadis, schools, PU colleges, and ITIs.

The announcement was made by Udupi deputy commissioner Swaroopa T K, who confirmed that the decision was taken in the interest of student safety due to continued downpours across the district.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Udupi on August 19, warning of extremely heavy rainfall in isolated areas.

Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel.
