Islamabad, Aug 16: Pakistan’s dismal cricket performance this year may hit players’ pockets, with stars like Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan potentially facing pay cuts, a report suggests.
The team played three Tests, winning just one, and managed only two victories in 11 ODIs. Their T20I record is equally unimpressive, with seven wins and seven losses in 14 matches. Recently, Pakistan suffered a humiliating ODI series loss to the West Indies, with Shai Hope’s unbeaten 120 and Jayden Seales’ six-wicket haul securing a 202-run win in the final match. This marked the first bilateral ODI series win for the West Indies against Pakistan since 1991 and the first time Pakistan lost an ODI to the Caribbean side by over 200 runs.
Due to these poor results, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) may remove the 3% ICC revenue share from players’ central contracts. Two years ago, seniors had successfully lobbied for this inclusion, but legal hurdles have so far prevented its removal. “It is likely to be included for the last time in the new contracts,” the report added.
