Beltangady: Illegal transport of cattle in car - One arrested, two on the run

Beltangady, Aug 14: An incident of illegally transporting three cattle in a car came to light at Guruvayanakere.

The accused were reportedly transporting the cattle in an Innova car fitted with a fake number plate, from Mudigere in Chikkamagaluru district towards Mangaluru via Charmadi at high speed. At Guruvayanakere, the vehicle rammed into an auto-rickshaw and an electric pole.

Police on duty at the spot signalled the vehicle to stop, but the suspects ignored the order and attempted to flee. Of the three occupants, two managed to escape, while the driver, identified as Arif (26) from Suvarna Nagar, Moodbidri, was taken into custody. The absconding accused have been identified as Rizwan (30) and Sayil (22), both residents of Suvarna Nagar, Moodbidri. A case has been registered at Beltangady police station. One of the cattle sustained injuries and was treated by locals.

Following the incident, a crowd gathered at the spot, causing traffic congestion in Guruvayanakere for nearly two hours. As it was morning, schoolchildren and office-goers faced inconvenience. Traffic police assisted in restoring smooth vehicle movement.
