Mumbai, Jul 16: With civic and local elections approaching in Maharashtra, the Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) and the Republican Sena, led by Anandraj Ambedkar, have announced a new political alliance based on the shared principles of “thought, faith, and development.”
Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde said both parties are rooted in street-level activism and committed to fighting injustice. “One represents the ideals of Balasaheb Thackeray, and the other carries forward the legacy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar,” he noted.
Shinde emphasised that his journey—from being a common man to Chief Minister and now Deputy CM—was shaped by Ambedkar’s Constitution, which also enabled leaders like Narendra Modi, from humble beginnings, to rise to national leadership. “We’re committed to ensuring the Constitution delivers justice to the common man,” he said.
He added that power should serve the people, and both parties being "worker-centric" would ensure the alliance is grounded in public interest and grassroots connectivity.
Anandraj Ambedkar, the Republican Sena chief and grandson of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, said the tie-up will drive both social and political transformation in the state. He also expressed intent to bring Ambedkarite activists into governance.
Responding to past criticisms about the Constitution being under threat, Shinde dismissed such concerns as political gimmicks by the opposition, asserting, “As long as the sun and moon exist, Babasaheb’s Constitution will remain intact.”
The alliance signals a strategic move to consolidate Dalit and Marathi votes under a common platform as Maharashtra heads into an intense electoral season.
