Court pulls up police over delay in probe on Sameer Wankhede’s sister’s complaint

Mumbai, Jul 5: The Metropolitan Magistrate court in Bandra on Friday issued a show cause notice to Amboli police for failing to submit an investigation report in a case filed by Yasmeen Wankhede, sister of former NCB zonal director Sameer Wankhede, against senior NCP leader Nawab Malik for alleged stalking and defamation.

Yasmeen, who is also a practicing lawyer, had initially filed the complaint in 2021 before the Andheri magistrate court. However, the case went through multiple transfers — first to the MP-MLA court in Borivali, and later to the Bandra court — due to jurisdictional changes, which caused prolonged delays in hearing the matter.

It was only in January this year that the Bandra court directed Amboli police to investigate the allegations and file a report by February 15. Despite the directive, police have not submitted any report so far, prompting the court to issue a show cause notice for the delay.

According to the complaint, Malik allegedly posted Yasmeen’s pictures online, calling her a “lady don” in a bid to defame her. Yasmeen also alleged that her photographs were illegally sourced from various platforms and circulated with malicious intent.

The court is now seeking an explanation from Amboli police for the non-compliance, as the matter continues to draw legal and political attention.
