Mumbai, Jun 24: A mid-air health scare aboard an Air India flight AI-130 from London to Mumbai left seven individuals—five passengers and two crew members—unwell, triggering suspicions of food poisoning or cabin pressure-related issues, airline sources revealed on Tuesday.
The flight, operated by a Boeing 777 aircraft, landed safely at Mumbai International Airport, where medical teams were on standby. According to an Air India spokesperson, the affected individuals reported feeling dizzy and nauseous at various stages of the long-haul journey.
"Two passengers and two cabin crew members who continued to feel unwell post-landing were immediately attended to in the airport’s medical room. Fortunately, all of them were later discharged after preliminary examination,” the spokesperson stated.
While the exact cause remains under investigation, one media report cited a potential case of decompression or gradual cabin pressure drop, leading to symptoms due to lack of oxygen.
However, another senior airline official suggested food poisoning could not be ruled out, though it was noted that pilots, who consumed the same in-flight meals, experienced no discomfort.
Air India has notified aviation regulators about the incident and initiated an internal inquiry. “We are taking this matter seriously and are reviewing onboard service, catering protocols, and aircraft environmental control systems,” the airline’s spokesperson added.
With growing concern over in-flight health and safety standards, this incident is likely to prompt a thorough scrutiny of both aircraft systems and catering logistics.
Passengers on board expressed concern over the situation but commended the crew for handling the emergency with calm and professionalism.
